Do you have common sense? You just might be surprised that there are a lot of people who do not seem to exhibit this! Anyway, this post is all about exercising common sense in casinos. Sometimes, even if you think that you have common sense, you might be too involved in the situation not to see things objectively. So here are common sense tips that might just help you out.

Set aside money for entertainment and get your bankroll from this.
I believe that this is a very important thing. Sometimes, when you want to gamble so much, you might not notice that you are already spending money that is not meant for spending on entertainment. It does not make sense to gamble your grocery money away. Neither does it make sense to gamble your spending money to get to work. The solution is to make sure you have a set amount which you can use for gambling and stick to that.

Analyze your playing denomination.
What I mean by this is if you are used to playing for dollars and you realize that you are losing way too much money, then perhaps you should go down a level or two; that is, play for quarters. In doing so, you can still continue playing without losing your money quickly.

Slow down.
If you find yourself playing frantically, then perhaps you need to slow down a bit. Take your time – after all, gambling is all about having fun. That means that you do not have to rush things.

Have a happy time gambling with your wits about you!

We are all faced with decisions every single day of our lives. Some decisions can be as mundane as what to eat for breakfast or what to wear to work while other decisions can be more important and life changing. Going to a casino or gambling is much like life in this respect. The activity is full of decisions that you have to make. Some of these decisions may not have a huge impact on how your casino night turns out to be while others are quite important and can make or break you.

So what are the important decisions that you have to make when gambling? Jerry Patterson, author of the best selling gambling book Casino Gambling, presents 8 key decisions that you would have to face in a casino setting. They are:

•	Decision 1: To play or not to play
•	Decision 2: Which game to play
•	Decision 3: Which casino to play
•	Decision 4: Which table to play
•	Decision 5: Betting unit size and tactics for increasing the bet
•	Decision 6: When to leave the table
•	Decision 7: When to leave the casino
•	Decision 8: When to terminate the casino session

I would say that in order to gain that competitive edge, you have to run these decisions through your head even BEFORE you go to the casino. For example, you have to decide the point wherein you absolutely have to leave the table. Similarly, you have to set your own limits. Determine beforehand when you would leave the casino and call it a night.

What do you think?

We’ve all heard about these two terms before, though probably not in relation to each other. Yet think about it, a lot of gambling enthusiasts have been talking about money management in the recent years as well. What exactly is money management and how does it relate to gambling?

Well as the term implies, money management is how a person (or a group of persons for that matter) handle their finances in such a way that he (or they) get the best possible results. Applying that to gambling, money management would simply be handling one’s money in such a ways as to minimize losses and maximize gains. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

How can you manage your money properly while at the tables? I think the best way to do this is to know the odds of the game you are playing before diving into the fray. Knowing the odds would help you determine how much you bet. Take for example spinning the wheel, you would probably lose after a win. What you should then do is to lessen your bet after winning. If you do this, in the long run, you would be able to lessen your losses overall.

The same thing applies for other table games. Knowing your odds of winning would help you adjust the size of your bet at the right times. In poker, for example, knowing your chances of winning with a certain hand in relation to the situation at the table will guide you in deciding what move to make. As always, the bottom line is to minimize your loss and maximize your gain.

The Gambler’s Fallacy

The Gambler’s Fallacy is the primary cause of addictive gambling. If we’re not careful, our minds can play psychological tricks on us and convince us that we are “due” a win.

So, let’s say that you’ve lost five straight games at the blackjack table. The gambler’s fallacy is your mind telling you that you are “due” a win because you’ve lost five in a row. But in reality, the five previous games are completely independent events from the one you are about to play. So you’re making a mistake if you think that somehow your losing the previous five will help you win the next one.

Lottery players suffer from gambler fallacy. The idea is that sooner or later “I’m due a big one.” Well, sorry to set the record straight, but each lottery pick is a completely independent event. So, the fact that you haven’t won any money for the last 365 lottery picks, doesn’t make you any more likely to win tonight’s lottery event.

So, you might ask, is it simply always a fallacy to gamble? The answer is no! But your gambling strategy should always make reference only to the specific event on which you are placing a bet. If you have some inside information about an event that makes the chances of your winning greater than 50% then you are in a very good place to gamble. In fact, it might hardly be said a gamble if you know with 90% certainty that you will win!

A dealer is required to play his hand in a specific way, and with hardly any other choices available to him. There are actually two very popular variations that would determine what totals the dealer must be able to draw to. In any given casino, you can tell which rule is being used by looking at the blackjack table. The table must have a clearly labeled sign that would indicate either one of these rules:* “Dealer stands on all 17s”

This rule is actually the most common. With this particular rule, the dealer must continue to take cards until he gets a 17 or higher. An Ace that is in the hand of the dealer is always counted as an 11 as much as possible without the dealer actually going over 21.

* “Dealer hits soft 17″

There are some casinos that use this rule variation instead. This rule is actually identical except for what actually happens when the dealer has a soft total of 17. Examples of soft 17 hands are (Ace, 6), (Ace, 5, Ace), and Ace, 2, 4). The dealer hits these hands and then stands on soft 18 or higher or on a hard 17 or higher. When this particular rule is used the house advantage against the other players is actually raised a bit.

It must be reiterated that the dealer really has no choice to make in the play of his hand. He cannot split any pairs, and he must instead simply hit until he reaches at least 17 or he busts by going over 21.
