Dangerous Playoff Teams

With four of the eight series done and dusted, there are still another four to be sorted out by what are now elimination games from here on in, all of that means that the NHL playoffs are bubbling along nicely.

There has been plenty of action in the playoffs so far with plenty of the usual upsets along the way. We’ve seen in the past that the most successful and talented teams from the regular season don’t always win the Stanley Cup, and indeed that could be the case again this year, already the #1 seeds in the Western Conference, the Vancouver Canucks are over and done with, so which sides do we think are lurking in the wings to take the big prize this year.

Our first pick would be the St Louis Blues who have experienced an amazing turn around in fortunes this season especially with the arrival of a new coach in Ken Hitchcock plus a couple of veteran performers to steady the ship. Those changes bought about a new level of leadership and discipline, from that point on they dominated within the league and topped 100 points in 2012, being the first team to do so. The Blues are loaded with talent and are now being coached to use that talent as a deadly weapon. This team has come together and is firing on all cylinders.

But by our way of thinking, no team is hotter than the Philadelphia Flyers right now, nearly everything is paying off for them and in Claude Giroux they have an outstanding player, who is using the playoffs to define himself as a dominant force in the NHL. The Flyers have plenty of firepower and if they continue their roll they will be hard to contain and on their way to a Stanley Cup Final.
