Compulsive Gambling MAY Be A Side Effect Of Parkinson’s

There are many diseases that exist today that we dread more than others. One of them is Parkinson’s disease as we do not really have a cure for it as of yet. While we know that researchers are engaged in a continuous effort to find out more about the disease and how it can be treated, we also cannot overlook the fact that the current treatments are not really what are all looking for. Far from being perfect, existing treatment might actually have some side effects which are not very desirable.
Take for instance compulsive gambling. While I know that all of you have nothing against gambling – in all probability, you love it! – I am also pretty sure that you do not think of compulsive gambling in a positive light. After all, gambling is a decent enough hobby as long as it does not get in the way of one’s normal life as it does when compulsive gambling presents itself as an issue.
Studies show that people who have been taking dopamine, one of the foremost drugs being used in treating the symptoms of Parkinson’s, are developing strange side effects. One of them is the habit for compulsive gambling. This is definitely NOT good news but then again, a more recent study has shown that only about 1 in 10 people develop this side effect.
While I highly doubt that you have Parkinson’s – and I certainly hope that no one will develop the disease – this piece of information might just prove handy. You never know.
Now THIS is great gaming news! What do I do now?
