NBAâ€™s Current Scandal

It seems that this month has been a bad month for sports. Left and right, there have been scandals in almost all of the major sports in the US today. The NBA, though it has never been free of charges, is facing a massive inquiry at the moment. Early last week, Commissioner David Stern said that this thing is “the most serious situation that I have experienced either as a fan of the NBA, a lawyer for the NBA or commissioner of the NBA.”

The whole issue revolves around Tim Donaghy, an NBA referee for 13 years. He allegedly has been betting on NBA games and giving out insider information to gamblers. There are also some rumors that he has been shaving points off games. Of course, to date, there has been no proof and no formal charges have been filed yet. Donaghy has turned in his resignation but has stated that he is willing to name names of those involved in the same activities.

What this is going to do to the NBA, I donâ€™t really know. I think it can weather this storm. It is a very strong league with very strong supporters. Another question in my mind is what this is going to do to sports betting. Again, I do not really know for sure but it might be that we will be seeing some changes in policies and restrictions. I do not really know but it does not seem to be good news.
