Gambling in Spain

I have never been to Spain but that is definitely one country that I would like to visit one of these days. Known all over the world for its good food, culture, and beaches (some areas at least), Spain is a wonderful destination for anyone. Yet have you ever thought about the gambling activities there? I am sure not everyone thinks about that when planning a vacation but there are bound to be some like minded people reading this, don’t you think?

Anyhow, gambling is a hot topic in Spain nowadays. Thanks to the Internet gambling ban passed in the United States, Europe has seen an immense surge in gambling activities. Reportedly, Spain is enjoying a huge chunk of the action. Imagine this – a growth percentage of 154% from 2005 to 2006. Now, who wouldn’t be loving that figure?

It seems that while the rest of Europe is more concentrated on the lottery and similar activities, the fun loving people of the south are looking more at poker, bingo, and other table games. Just a note though (I forgot to mention it firsthand) – we are talking about online gambling here. The Spanish seem to really love the options they have in online casinos and poker rooms.

More than gambling, the allure of these online activities seem to include social networking. This should not come as a surprise, though, as everywhere else in the world, we see the same trend. Just a piece of trivia for gambling lovers out there.
